A live podcast sounded like the perfect way to celebrate the Good Culture Podcast’s third anniversary, but true to form, Lee, Kenny And Sydney decided to do something a little different. Something that celebrated life, celebrated the listeners, and celebrated what the podcast has become with your support in mind.
Enter Kickback on Wax: an intimate live episode that allowed listeners to become part of the creative process over games, friendly competition, food, and an open bar, all while receiving branded merchandise such as shoes, portable chargers, duffle bags, and fanny packs from our sponsor Reebok Classics.
Our hosts kicked things off with a recap of their year-end pop culture predictions. The audience decided which predictions were the most incorrect, and as a result, which host would be taking shots.
T. Lee emerged #unscathed.
In the next segment, the hosts guided us through their thoughts on Hip Hop Album of the Year, R&B Album of the Year, Bitch Ass Nigga of the Year, Man of the Year, and Woman of the Year. Lee, Kenny and Syd had one pick each and gave the audience a chance to nominate another pick before voting for each category.
It was a round of tough and tipsy (Drunk. Sent with invisible ink effect) voting, but in the end we declared the winners:
• Hip Hop Album of the Year: Victory Lap x Nipsey Hussle
• R&B Album of the Year: East Atlanta Love Letter x 6lack
• Banger of the Year: Mo Bamba x Sheck Wes
• Bitch Ass Nigga of the Year: “D, All of the above”, including Tekashi 69, Kanye West, and Nicki Minaj
• Man of the Year: TheKennyReeves
• Woman of the Year: Michelle Obama
I could explain how it all happened but you really just needed to be there.
Media endeavors often find themselves here today and gone tomorrow. But in just three years, the Good Culture Podcast has gone through various transitions to develop a community of 15,000 listeners in markets across—and outside of—the country.
That support led to #KOW being sold out in less than 24 hours. Good Culture doesn’t take that for granted. So as the brand celebrates three years of something special, thank you for every time you listened, every time you shared, and every time you left a review.
Stay tuned. The celebrations are just beginning.
