GILBERT ARENAS: WHEN KEEPIN' IT REAL GOES WRONG
This one is tough. In today's social climate, your opinion on any small thing can shape peoples' impression of you for the remainder of your relevancy. Gilbert Arenas is learning that the hard way. If you haven't read, seen or heard, the former NBA All-Star posted a short clip on his IG account yesterday regarding the looks of WNBA players. In his video, women were hoopin' in thongs and he basically said that that's what people envisioned when the WNBA was first introduced. That's not a technical foul in my opinion. Sexist? Yeah, but just about anything men say that doesn't praise a woman today is regarded as inconsiderate or sexist. #WeLoveAllWomenAtGoodCulture. It went from questionable to deplorable when he said "..not a bunch of chicks running around looking like, cast members from #orangeisthenewblack...dont get me wrong, they have few #cutiepies but theres a whole alotta #beanpies running around." This is where it's better to not say anything if you don't have anything nice to say. At this point, Gilbert should respect the sport enough to separate the game from his opinions on beauty. I don't watch a lot of womens' basketball, but it's not because of a lack of or an abundance of beauty. These women have made it to the highest level of their craft, I don't think they should be objectified by the societal standards of beauty when that has nothing to do with getting buckets. Some people can grasp that and block out everything else. Some people can't and they say dumb things as a result. Opinions can never be more than opinions, but they can be kept personal.
